Now is the time of year that many students are frantically balancing heavy senior class loads, re-taking standardized tests and filling out college applications. It can be a stressful time of year. It is also the time of year that college applications dominate the dialogue of students and parents. Many of those conversations are filled with misconceptions and personal opinion based upon hearsay. Honestly, so much of this can be controlled. Doug Christiansen, Admissions Dean of Vanderbilt University, does a great job talking about the admissions process from the inside. Take 23 minutes to listen. This can be a wonderful journey if approached authentically. Please remember that there are lots of things that you (parents and students) can control to reduce stress. First and foremost is opting out of the conversation.
